Do I still need a website if I already get work on Instagram and WhatsApp?
A website is not legally required to trade on Instagram or WhatsApp. You need one when strangers Google you before they pay, when you want a form that is not a DM, or when you want a page you own. You can wait if you are still testing the offer.
That is the decision for a clinic, a tuition centre, or a home-service crew in India.

This is not our 26 August post. That one is about already getting WhatsApp and Instagram enquiries and then losing them in one phone. If that is you, read Website + CRM for Indian SMBs: stop losing WhatsApp and Instagram enquiries next. This page asks the prior question: do you need a public website at all.
What others said in 2026 — then our go / no-go
Indian agencies spent 2026 writing this in two directions.
Eravue (29 March 2026) titled it Why Every Small Business in India Still Needs a Website. Their case: Instagram, WhatsApp Business, and listing sites are useful, but you do not own them. We agree you do not own Meta. We do not agree that every salon and clinic must buy a site this week.
Aapta (10 June 2026) asked Do You Still Need a Website in 2026? (vs Social + GMB) and answered yes — more than in 2020 — because AI engines read indexed HTML, not your grid. They also wrote carve-outs: wait if you are still testing the offer, if you are a single-location micro-business with no growth plan, if it is still a side hustle, or if you only sell through a short named list. We will take the carve-out and skip their conversion-rate tables. Those numbers are theirs.
Badri Digital Tech treats website vs social as a role split: social for attention, a site for a decision. Useful. It still does not tell a Pune physiotherapist whether to spend this quarter.
RichAutomate (2026) says you can get the WhatsApp Business Platform (API) without a live website: documents and a dedicated number matter more than a homepage. That is their reading of onboarding. It is not a TechyXen API plan. We do not resell Meta.
Mursa (11 June 2026) published Indore field notes: WhatsApp-first SMBs with no website, including operations they describe above ₹50 lakh a year. That can be true. A wholesale buyer who already has your number does not need a homepage. It does not answer the stranger who Googles the clinic after a reel.
TechyXen’s cut: Instagram and WhatsApp are where Indian work actually moves. A website is not a law. It is a public desk you own. Buy it when the desk does a job the chat cannot. Skip it when you are still guessing what you sell.
Website vs Instagram vs WhatsApp vs Google Business Profile
| Job | Website you own | Google Business Profile | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who controls it | You (domain + host) | Meta | Meta | |
| Stranger finds you on Google | Possible if the page is indexed | Rarely | No | Yes — Maps / local pack |
| Path that is not a DM | Enquiry / appointment form | DMs | Chat | Call, sometimes chat, link out |
| After hours | Form can wait in a list | Unread pile | Unread pile | Missed call / unread chat |
| “Let me check you are real” | A page with your name, work, and a way in | Grid + bio | A number | Listing + reviews |
| URL on a card / listing / ad | Yes | Profile you do not own | wa.me link | The listing is the page |
| Catalogue / cart | Only if you build a store | Shops / DMs | Business App catalogue | Limited products |
| Survives a banned personal account | Yes | No | No | Separate risk (suspensions) |
GBP is often the local door, Instagram discovery, WhatsApp the close. The website is the page you still have if a login wall or a lost SIM gets in the way — and the form for people who will not message a stranger.
A five-question go / no-go
Sit with last week’s business phone. Same checks we use internally; here they decide whether to build the desk, not how to log chats you already have.
- How many people asked for a price, a slot, or a demo?
- How many of those can you still name today?
- How many have a next step with a date?
- If the person who holds WhatsApp is sick tomorrow, can anyone else see the open leads?
- When someone Googles your trading name on a phone, do they get a page of yours with a working form — or only a profile, a listing, or nothing?
Go — you likely need a public desk if (5) is empty or embarrassing, or if people already arrive from Google / Maps / a forwarded link and have nowhere to land except a chat, or if (4) is no and more than one person should be able to follow up.
No-go — wait if (1) is near zero and you are still changing the offer every week. If almost nobody new is asking and the offer is stable, that is findability — digital marketing (listings, search pages, content), not a 40-page brochure.
You already have the reverse problem if (1) is healthy and (2)–(4) are ugly. That is the 26 August article: put the chats in a list. A website form helps only if someone reads it.
Clinic, tuition, home services
Clinic. A reel gets a DM. You reply between patients. Two days later a spouse Googles the name to check you are real. A page with hours and a form lets them book without another DM. Nothing indexed, and they open the next clinic in Maps. WhatsApp can still confirm the slot. The site did the trust job.
Tuition. Batches already live in WhatsApp groups. Fine for parents you have. Admissions are different: a neighbour forwards a status, or a parent will not DM a teacher they do not know. A short site with an enquiry form is the public desk. Groups are not an LMS — if you have outgrown them, that is a quoted product, not this article.
Home services. A lot of the work is GBP + WhatsApp, and that can be enough while every job is a repeat or a referral. You need a page when you start paying for ads, when two helpers share one number, or when an office asks for a URL. The form is for the person who will not call a personal mobile at 9 pm.
Instagram can keep discovery. WhatsApp can keep the conversation. Neither is a CRM or a page you own.
Who should skip a website (for now)
Skip, or wait, if any of these is true:
- You are still testing what you sell, to whom, at what price. Do not freeze a five-page site around a guess.
- Every paying customer already has your number and never searches you.
- Nobody on your side will check a form inbox or a CRM. Then a site is furniture.
- You need a catalogue and checkout. That is not a brochure site. TechyXen is not a shop. A store is a client build on e-commerce solutions.
- You need software: multi-staff inventory booking, logins, roles. Quoted web development, not a form-and-phone page.
- You only wanted the WhatsApp API. A site is not a hard onboarding rule (see RichAutomate above). We still will not sell you an API plan.
Skipping a website is not skipping a list. If chats already arrive, write them down. The 26 August post is that job.
If the test says you need a desk
Do not start with a custom portal unless you already know the simple desk is too small.
The live offer is Website + CRM Lead System, ₹99/day. Facts from that page as of 28 August 2026:
- A website with an enquiry / appointment form
- A CRM to store and manage customer data (lead status, notes, history)
- Initial setup and lifetime tech support for this system
- One business email on your domain
- Web hosting included
- ₹99/day · ₹9,000 for 3 months, billed quarterly
- No long contracts, no hidden costs, demo before onboarding
- Setup in 7 working days after you share details — that package only, not custom apps, stores, or branding
₹99 is a daily rate. The invoice is nine thousand rupees for three months. You are not paying a meter every night.
It is not ads. It is not the ₹199/day organic social plan. It is not a store. It is not an LMS. It is not a ranking promise. If the demo screens do not match how you work, do not onboard.
When the desk is too small, web development. When people cannot find you, digital marketing. When you need a shop, e-commerce solutions.
The line-by-line packing list is already on What you actually get in a ₹99/day website and lead system. This article will not recook it. For organic social, see the ₹199/day organic social plan; ads are not included.
What to do this week
Run the five questions. If the answer is “we need a page we own, a form, and a list,” take the demo on the ₹99/day offer before you pay. If the answer is “we need software” or “we need a shop,” say that on contact so we do not squeeze it into nine thousand rupees.
Bring four facts: what you sell, which city or region, which app the last ten enquiries arrived on, and whether you need a simple desk or a custom build.

Do I still need a website if I already get work on Instagram and WhatsApp?
A website is not legally required to trade on Instagram or WhatsApp. You need one when strangers Google you before they pay, when you want a form that is not a DM, or when you want a page you own. You can wait if you are still testing the offer.
Can I run my Indian small business only on WhatsApp?
Yes, some do — especially repeat buyers who already have the number. You still want a list of those chats that does not live in one SIM. You want a website when new people search your name, when someone will not DM, or when you need a URL you own for listings and ads.
Is Instagram enough for a clinic or tuition centre?
It can bring the first message. It is a poor public desk. Parents and patients often Google the name after the DM. A short site with a working mobile form is the page you own. Instagram can stay as discovery.
Do I need a website for the WhatsApp Business API?
Not as a hard onboarding rule, according to 2026 BSP explainers: documents and a dedicated number matter more than a homepage. TechyXen does not resell Meta and does not sell a WhatsApp API plan. Most clinics and tutors need a CRM list before they need the Platform.
Who should skip a website for now?
Skip if you are still testing the offer, if nobody will open a form or CRM, if every customer already has your number and never searches you, or if what you actually need is a shop or custom software. A shop is a client build on e-commerce solutions, not the ₹99/day desk.
What does TechyXen’s ₹99/day website + CRM include?
Website with enquiry/appointment form; CRM with lead status, notes, and history; one business email; hosting; initial setup; lifetime tech support for that system. ₹99/day, ₹9,000 for 3 months, billed quarterly. Demo before onboarding. 7 working days after details, for that package only. Not a store, not ads. Live page: https://techyxen.com/lead-system-99/
